The healthcare workforce has grown considerably with the addition of a new group of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals who belong to America’s youngest generation in the workforce-generation Y, or the Millennials. With 70 million people, the oldest of whom are now in their late 20’s and early 30’s, are positioned to drastically change current approaches to healthcare.
Millennials, more than any other group, look for convenient ways to get things done. For example, they are more likely to look for doctors and health care facilities online and they prefer to make appointments and pay their bills online . This ‘online dependency’ directly influences how they work too and how they analyse data. Overall, this young generation of doctors is expected to change the medical industry in big ways and they’ve already outnumbered America’s oldest generation, the baby-boomers.
